School Board

The School Board is made up of seven residents of Independent School District 152 elected to four-year terms. Board members are elected at large. They receive $550 per month compensation.

The School Board sets the policies for the management of the district. The School Board approves the budget, employs all personnel, acquires and disposes of property, serves as a link between the school system and the public, establishes short- and long-term goals, and assesses and interprets educational needs of the community. Board members also serve as liaisons to various district and non-district committees.

School Board Meetings
Board meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Townsite Centre Board Room.

All meetings are open to the public. The only exception would be a meeting to discuss labor negotiations strategy, and the Board must act to close such a meeting by a majority vote at a public meeting.

Agendas
Copies of the agenda are available at each meeting. Agendas may be picked up in the Office of the Superintendent at Townsite Centre the day of the meeting.

Board members receive agendas and supporting documents in advance of each meeting so they can study the material and be prepared to make decisions.

Because the board needs complete information prior to making decisions, board members usually will not act on items that are not on the agenda.

The agenda normally follows this order:

Call to Order

• Pledge of Allegiance

• Preview of Agenda

• Approval of Meeting Agenda

• "We Are Proud"

• Matters Presented by Citizens/Other Communications

Consent Agenda

• Instructional Matters

• Business Affairs

• Personnel Matters

• Administrative Matters

Other Pertinent Items

Voicing Your Opinion
To request placement of an item on the agenda contact the Office of the Superintendent at 299-6256 one week in advance.

To speak to an item on the agenda during a meeting, stand to be recognized when the item comes up for discussion. To speak to an item not on the agenda, stand to be recognized during Matters Presented by Citizens/Other Communications. Give your name and address before stating your comments.

School Board Elections
School Board elections are held the first Tuesday in November of odd number years in conjunction with city elections. Board members are elected at large for four-year terms. New directors take their seats in January, and the Board elects new officers at that time.

Information for prospective School Board candidates is also available by contacting the Office of the Superintendent at 810 4th Ave. S., Moorhead or by calling 299-6256.
